scrollin, scrollin, scrollin like a river

Finding themselves atop a massive glowing rune covered scroll with caustic ink-geysers and wickedly sharp paper boulders. They spot a huge floating book and a floating …mummy, lich, whatchamahoozit next to it. As the group approaches they note that the book appears to be made of living flesh, though incomplete. As the group prepares for battle, a quintet of rune-carved and flayed horrors appears to menace the party. Attempts to turn the evil beasties prove fruitless and the battle is joined. Living flesh is stripped from Malchor and others and to their horror, the pieces of their skin join to the previously incomplete pages.

Huge magics are unleashed and savage blows are traded. Goldpiece dons his batwings and draws his flameblade and begins hacking at the thing, nearly losing his life in the process. Once the runecursed are defeated, the group concentrates on the bookkeeper and in the end, despite losing the oathbow and some other magic items to breakage, they manage to defeat the evil entity. Quickly, before it can reform, they use the vial of ki-rin tears to inscribe the prayer from the book they found and manage to destroy the evil codex. With that, the scroll starts to break up and before too long the group finds itself at the rear of a small room, beyond which lies the laior of the grafittiwizards. Luckily the group has this scenario all worked out and the dome of ice is dropped over the wizards as the party members haul ass out of there.

They spend two days replenishing defensive spells and healing wounds before doing some serious headscratching. Finally convinced that this cannot be the vault that they were seeking, they set out on more scouting patrols – eventually finding a door hidden at the base of a cliff, about halfway down the hillside. They manage to gain entrance and descend past some rainbow stairs to arrive in a room that makes it seem like they are finally in the right place.

Texts speak of tests of rulership and an emblem made of concentric circles lies on one of the walls. Surely this is the place,. The next room gives them a gorgon to chew on – eventually defeated – and little else. They double back in search of the answer to the riddle of the vault…
