Bingbeene and the Bone

Intellect-Devourer

Investigation reveals more of the same. Rubble strewn passages, crystal doors and the occasional tentacled brain thing, some armed with lightning blasters. More or less, all the encounters proceed in a similar fashion. Brains surprise party and get in a few licks. Party rallies and slays creatures in a manner of seconds. Rinse and repeat.

There is a bit of a break in the monotony when the mage sends in a wizard eye to scout one of the last chambers and spots a larger than normal, extra adorned brain lurking just off to the side of the top of the rubble pile that the party will have to climb. Sneaky sneaky brain. So, Malchor out-sneaks the sneaky brain by crawling up the walls in his spider slippers and disintegrating the thing before it is aware of his presence. Well, that is done and dusted. Some loot is gathered and the party moves to the last crystal door that is barred on their side. They enter and find a cavern at the bottom of a steep drop. There are piles of bones scattered about and one last survivor of a merchant caravan that was attacked and taken captive by the tentacle brains. They’ve been eating the prisoners it would seem.

Some more scouting reveals a narrow ledge and a sort of crawlway beyond a small pond and about 30 feet above the cave floor. The party enters and begins the trek.

They trek for quite a while and eventually come into a largish ‘intersection’ where multiple tunnels merge. There is a ruined shrine and not much else. The group sets about investigating and spends the majority of the day investigating. One of the passages leads to a Drow outpost. That path is set aside for now. Another leads to a collapsed tunnel with no particular way through. Another emerges in the jungle, somewhere to the south of the sinkhole they originally used to enter the underground. A bit of rest and then it is time to travel the last path. In doing so they encounter a set of stairs, a wall set with bronze doors and a certain ceremonial air about the place. Probably related to the ruined shrine?

The doors are forced and the group enters and is attacked by clawed mini-brains that attempt to supplant the party’s will and devour their minds. Thraw brains one of the brains with the Bone of Slaying and well, slayed it! The other is finished off before it can wreak mental havoc on the party. They pause for a moment to draw a few shaky breaths and press on…
