December 2008

Back in Thudheim, the group divides up the treasure taken from the tower complex. Thud provides Max with a safe room guarded by Thudheim militia for the daily process of magical identification. The first item is an emerald scroll tube containing a magic user scroll with the following spells: Charm Monster, Lemunds Secure Shelter, Hold Monster, Lemunds Lament, Guards and Wards, Ottos Irresistable Dance and Succor. The next four items are magic rings. A ring of truth, a ring of telekinesis and two rings of feather falling. Next is a suit of elven chainmail +3. The next item identified is a rug of smothering. Max is discovered by the militia struggling over and over with the rug as it kills him and his ring of regeneration brings him back to life. The next item is a +4 dagger. The next item takes Max four days to identify. It is a +4 long sword (lawful good defender). It is very upset at being in the possession of the efk. The next item is a cursed bastard sword. Max is unable to set it down. There is a new magic user in Thudheim named Catfish John, who offers his services to remove the curse. The final items identified include a +2 broad sword, 2 +1 long swords , a +1 shield, dust of appearance, a spell book and dust of appearance.
The items taken by each group member:
Ralek – Elven Chain +3, + 4 dagger, Ring of Feather Fall
Greenleaf – Ring of Telekinesis, Dust of Appearance
Thud – Rug of Smothering, Ring of Feather Fall, +2 broad sword, 2 +1 long swords, +1 shield
Max – Magic Scroll, Ring of Truth, Spell Book

With the items divided the group decides what to do with the +4 defender. It is decided that the sword should be presented to the church of Lethander in Waterdeep as a gesture of good will. The church accepts the sword but is somewhat uneasy with the story it tells of it’s recovery.
Max then present the spell book of the Magic User Zagig to the Chancelor at the Wizards College claiming he found it. The Chancellor agrees to try and return it to the powerful mage with (hopefully) no questions asked…
Greenleaf reports rumors from the lands near Silverymooon which claim that most of the plunder from the Demonwars has been concentrated in the hands of a Frost Giant king of exceptional strength and influence amongst his kind. The exact amount of treasure is incalculable, for none know exactly what happened to the wealth of Neverwinter. An expedition to the region might yield more information.
The new party assembles with new members Catfish John (Magic User / Illusionist) and Navarro (Fighter / Magic User) and begins the trip north to the city of Silverymoon…

Moving on the group encounters a flock of sturges and max blasts them with a fireball. Several members take damage as well. On to a room with four mummies Max, Thud and Da’Nog fail their saves and run away scared. Greenleaf summons a fire elemental to kill the mummies. A vile, a ring and a dagger on pillows illuminate magic. The items are taken.Several zombies are encountered but quickly dispatched by the group.
Continuing down a hallway to a chimney like hole in the roof. It looks too narrow for an escape. On to another hallway that ends at a locked door. Max casts knock and the door opens. A Statue with a blue robe and four tapestries with live moving eyes. The group moves on to another locked door. Another knock is used to gain entry. Nothing is found. On to another locked door. Thud smashes the door and everything goes black. Max casts dispel magic to remove the darkness. The door is open and stair lead up to a library room. In the room is a 30′ high pyramid. Many scrolls are taken. The entrance of the pyramid is investigated but there is only an empty alcove inside. A large round tomb door is moved aside by Thud and Da’Nog. A plethora of skeletons and zombies spring to life as the group enters. Greenleaf casts wall of fire and torches them all. On to another room with four wights. Thud and Max off them with their undead protection. On through the maze of tombs where many empty coffins are found. A spiral staircase up is found. The stairs lead to a pyramid shaped room that has transparent walls. The outside world can be seen The towers and the elven fortress. The group finds no way to penetrate through but decides to camp in the safety of the room.
After sleeping, studying, praying and eating the group descends the spiral staircase. The party proceeds down a hallway and up another spiral staircase into an office. Greenleaf has been in this room before. There are journals, a spell book and a magic quill and ink bottle. All are taken and the group moves on.
On to a room with a giant anemone shaped creature. There is a bucket in the room. Ralek fills the bucket with water and throws it on the creature. He becomes addicted with this act as it brings more and more pleasure… He must be removed from the room.
The group moves on and finds a room filled with magical runes. Max begins to read them aloud but cannot stop. As he finishes an impenetrable bubble surrounds Da’Nog and he is trapped. Thud declares that it has been foreseen that Da’Nog would be imprisoned.
At this point the group decides it is time to make their escape from the tower complex. They return to the chimney room. Max and Greenleaf begin to use stone shape spells to widen the passage enough for the group to make their escape.
Following the twisting trail of druid handholds created over two days of digging, the party ascends through roughly 100′ of tunnel and emerges onto the mesa upon which rest the towers. The 7′ diameter tunnel mouth is located some 20’ distant from the base of the black ‘observation’ pyramid. The tunnel is on the far side of the tower from the elven fortress and you are screened from the sight of the ballista squad parked in front of the tower doors through which you entered.
Immediately, there is a problem. A gust of wind swirls strongly and Da’Nog is swept away – his bubble rising and falling in the wind. The sphere seems to have drawn the attention of the elves, as you hear cries of exclamation. There is considerable confusion in the elven camp.
As the eagle flies after the bubbled barbarian, and the invisible party scatters like leaves in the breeze the elves are cranking up ballistae and taking shots at the floating bubble. Only one even comes close before the winds whisk the barbarian away.
The remainder of the party (Ronj, Raelek, Greenleaf and Thud) beat feet around the periphery of the elven encampment and seem to make it unobserved to the central tower. There is a bit of fun playing hide and seek with a quartet of stone giants that seem to have taken up residence in the hallucinatory forest, but eventually the party remnants regroup on the trail leading away from the tower complex and into the Shadowood.
Luckily, there are no visible people and with the services of Greenleaf, the party is able to avoid any serious threats along the way. After a couple of weeks the group returns to Thudheim. There Max rejoins you and debriefs the party regarding Da’Nog.
Max flew after Da’Nog for most of the first day, but the ability of the bubble to ride the thermals and be driven before the winds made it difficult for Max to keep up. Indeed, eventually he was forced to rest and watch as the bubble scudded through the skies and towards the vast desert. When last seen in the glinting rays of the setting sun, Da’Nog was headed North by Northeast.
The following morning, Max resumed the search, but after a couple of days he gave up and returned to Thudheim to await the return of the party and to share the grim news regarding their hairy friend. No time to mourn, there are things to be done in the land of Thud – liquor to be fermented, walls to be built, thieves to be smashed, dogs to be bred.
