After releasing the laughing green head from the mirror and smiting the evil knight, the group continues investigating. They uncover a trapped firepit. While the rest of the group continues on looking for traps, the elf enters the room to look for secret doors. Meanwhile, the Lad is across the hallway looking after a large ruby found on a pi;e of bones. The cleric, mage and paladin press on and seem to find some sort of amphitheater.
Goldpiece exits just in time to see the door to the room closing behind the Lad. As he goes to open the door he has a taboo thought…what if this is a mimic?
Well, if this were a mimic it would explain why the elf is being masticated by the door. A brief but pitched battle ensues and the creature is slain. The ruby is admired, woulnds are healed and the exploration continues.
The amphitheater turns out to be just that. It ends in a large stage facing a series of rickety bench seats. The seats and stage are occupied by a number of dummies. They are near life size, and adorned with the same strange grin. They are dressed to reflect a number of different classes and professions. All but seven have a large black arrow piercing the dummy’s head.
As the group is puzzling over another strange occurrence in the monastery the cleric’s helm lights up , indicating the presence of undead. After a moment, it dawns on the group that five of those arrowless dummies are the party members. One is Conrad and the other is unknown. The cleric’s helm and the party’s light sources apparently serve to keep the fiends at bay and the room is investigated further. A strange, rune-carved cauldron is found under stage. A room adorned with easel, canvas and paints is located. Anything painted upon the canvas can be peeled off as a three-dimensional object. Another room holds a pair of floating gold bracers, carved with teardrops and pentagrams. Those are looted posthaste and used to fuel the unicorn staff.
The party thinks about Conrad and goes to investigate the snake to see if it has eaten the Righteous One. A secret passage is discovered and followed to a room with a fountain of blood and another with some boccie ball sized spheres sitting in shallow depressions. These are bypassed and the passage continues into the base of one of the towers at the edges of the monastery. Pausing only to slay a quintet of goblins and their pet scorpions, the group begins to investigate. Some slain adventurers and a large sitting room adorned with portraits of a wizard? and a succubus?. The group pauses for a moment to plan the next steps as they warily eye a staircase climbing into the darkness. Faint moans and screams echo down the stairs and they are attacked by a large swarm of super stirges that try and drain the group of their precious bodily fluids.
Having defeated the bloodsuckers, the group returns to a pensive state.
