Fish Fry!

They continue careening around the understreet passages and continue slicing and dicing anything that seems like it might pose a tangential threat. It does seem that the opposition is getting a little more organized, for a fireball detonates in the group at one point. Well….how rude!

The response is disproportionate. Malchor vaporizes an intersection with a massive fireball and then they charge-shuffle through the narrow passages and encounter the temple guards. Mr. T brandishes his scary whacking stick and starts a retreat. As his opponents flee, he chases them and beats them savagely – to death in fact. Goldpiece tags along looking for an opportunity to kill something. There is a dicey moment when a fishman with vestigial bat wings and a full body tattoo steps out of thin air and drives his fist into I van’s temple – killing him instantly. Malchor disintegrates him a few seconds later and a few seconds after that the Justicar’s staff prods Ivan back into life.

Soon thereafter, Malchor, Cosmic and Justicar are entering a different room, where priests are trying to cast spells upon them and fighter types are trying to poke holes through them. The acid-sheathed assault by Cosmic and the magic missiles of the mages prove a difficult force to overcome and soon the line of defense is broken – and the retreat turns into a rout. The fleeing foes are corned and slain. The group spends a little more time roaming around just looking to see if there is anything left to plunder or kill. THey find little except a pair of hapless guards that tried to barricade themselves into a storeroom. They also find a strange room that is spiked shut from the inside – but there is no trace of the occupant. Strange. Oh well.

They return to street level and creep through the temple/throne room, glancing at the street from the narrow windows. They note that there is a small army massing outside. Formations of fish fighters are flanked by squads of priests and small groups of monks. They appear to be blocking the major avenues of escape. The group seals off the entrance to the temple with a wall of stone and concocts a quick plan.

Malchor unleashes a bolt of lightning that decimates one of the distant groups. At the same time the combined powers of Elulyn and Kiko delete one of the other attack groups.

The mages regroup briefly then unleash a final assault on the remaining assembly of foes. In the space of a minute or so, the major force has been reduced to a few charred corpses. The group decides to press the advantage before any meaningful counterattack can be mounted. They send the earth elemental out in front while the rest of the group crowds into an invisibility sphere and wanders into the main square. On the opposite side of the courtyard, there is a large blocking force that appears to be providing cover to a group of Drow that are dragging a flying carpet of chests along as they attempt to vacate the premises. This attracts the unwanted attention of the murderhobo clan.

As the Drow try to flee, the group tries to annihilate them. Dispel magic brings down the carpet. Other destructive spells annihilate portions of the blocking force. The Drow organize – priests try to enhance the abilities of the front line fighters while drow mages try to erect magical defenses. This just guarantees that the mages use the largest artillery at their disposal. Malchor’s chain lightning rips through the mages, while overlapping fireballs and lightning bolts wreak terrible vengeance on the rank and file. While Elulyn straddles his black fly and takes to the sky the group advances cautiously towards the intersection. There is no sign of one of the drow groups, but there are a number of passages that they could have used to escape…looks like the fun is not yet done.
