Bolstered by the cleric’s ability to step through the planes, the party makes a jump far to the north and to the east, then settles in with a map and a crystal shard to track the demon’s progress across the land. For a few days, they rest and prepare for the epic struggle ahead. Only six days remain before the ceremony that will restore the fiend to full strength, when the decision is made to try a new location to triangulate the demon’s location.
The group makes two jumps and the intersecting lines point to an uninhabited region of desolate desert. That seems like a fine place to find the Tower of Bone they are seeking. A final jaunt through the planes brings them to the ridge of a mountain range overlooking an inland sea and the ruins of a city that looks like it was dropped from a great height. No rower can be seen until the area is surveyed by looking through a shard from the crystal skull. Then, a large tower looms out of a snow covered circle that contains ruined outbuildings. Perhaps the surroundings are from a different dimension that is trying to merge with this one. Perhaps.
The tower is surveyed and the group notes a large set of doors at the bottom of the windowless structure and a large dome at the top. The easy route of passwall into the top is not an option this time. It seems like the tower is warded against such cheap trickery and another road must be investigated. The doors are briefly investigated then rejected…seems like that will be the most defended portal…so where’s that pesky back door?
Into the ruined outbuildings, the group spends several hours in the freezing cold investigating possible entrances. Finally a likely entry point is located and they enter a dwarf-sized section of tunnels. They find and destroy some undead dwarves, then continue onward…the clock is ticking.
