Upon returning to the temple of the scalding waters and depositing the glass pane with the high priest, the group and the mace they carry are sent to an island near the far off land of wizards. There, upon the island is a temple to a god of justice, and his high priest has information of value. The group makes some educated guesses and uses the power of sorcery to deposit them within a few miles of their destination. .They arrive and by virtue of the mace they bear, receive an audience. When they enter the inner sanctum, they trigger an event. As they watch, words and images flow across the surface of a crystal that imprisons an angel. The bemused party members learn that it will take the willing sacrifice of a powerful, lawful good being to fully prepare the mace to do battle with Akruel Rappan’Athuk. The high priestess of the temple believes such a being is currently imprisoned in the evil temple of Hecate, high atop a volcanic caldera, some 700 miles distant. 700 miles is little to the teleporting mages and off they go. They arrive a distance away and spend a week or so observing and getting acclimated to the high altitude.
The edifice is imposing, formed from a single piece of glass quarried from the infernal planes, its four corners sport prominent smokestacks from which belch the fires from the pits of hell. Fun place.
More scouting is undertaken and when they are ready, the attack is launched. Dispel Magic upon the front door and a spell to open it and oh – hey – the walls are disgorging obsidian fiery minotaurs that take an incredible pounding – and give out an incredible pounding – before succumbing to Goldpiece and the Thelonious one.
They make it through the opening and move to investigate – running into a pair of rustmonster beings. The battle is pitched but the monsters are defeated. The party deploys the wizard’s eye and does a bit of scouting before setting off to explore the place further.
