Assault on the Cloud Giant Tower

The group (Orthan, Thud, Skilver, Greenleaf and Max) travels to Waterdeep. While at the Wizard’s College Orthan meets a mage that is looking for a group to go and retrieve cloud giant brains. He is willing to pay 2500 gold pieces per brain and provides Orthan with airtight jars and surgical tools for the task. The group leaves Waterdeep and travels to the High Moor. All invisible, Orthan rides his magic carpet with Greenleaf curled around him in the form of a boa. Skilver polymorphs into a pegasus and gives Thud a ride. Max flies in the form of an eagle with his familiar alongside.
Arriving in the High Moore, the group visits the former mage of Orlbar. (At least that what he claims) Orthan floats up to the top window of the mage’s tower and knocks on the shutter. The mage opens the shutter and welcomes Orthan. After some information exchange the mage complains that there is always a floating cloud above the Hammerheim area and he thinks it is a cloud giant tower. The party decides this would be a great opportunity for a quick and perhaps profitable adventure. Orthan leaves the mage with one of the magical mushrooms found by the efk and departs to find the cloudy tower.
Flying across the moor, the party observes a large cloud floating over Hammerheim in an unnatural way. Upon closer inspection the cloud is valley shaped with a tower resting within. The tower appears to be made of a mixture of fog, ice and stone. Eighty feet in diameter at the base the tower tapers upward to a precipice that is ovular, overhanging either side. On the top of the tower is a water cistern, along with several large brass dishes, a telescope, and giant sized humanoid toys. In the center is a circular opening leading eighty feet down to the base of the tower.
Everyone lands on the top, while Orthan flies down the center opening to investigate the inside of the tower. Three levels deep, Orthan decides to land on the second level. He observes a cloud giant sitting and smoking a pipe. The giant sees the fog swirling and throws a boulder barely missing Orthan. He then retreats back to the top of the tower to report to the party.
As he arrives two giants ascend from either side of the tower. Throwing a ruby from his helm max sends a doubled fireball toward one of the cloud giants. Skilver conjures a fireball on the other giant followed up by a slung bullet from Thud. Both giants descend back into the clouds.
Shouts are heard from below and the group descends into the tower down one level. When Thud gets to the platform he is attacked by two snow leopards. Then two cloud giants burst through a doorway throwing boulders. Skilver is struck for significant damage. Thud bravely charges the cloud giants with a snow leopard clinging to his back. With a thrust of his sword (20) he kills the younger lead giant.
As the older giant clubs Thud, Max and Skilver cast magic missile from above. The giant and Thud continue to trade blows for several rounds during which time Max throws another ruby creating another fireball above the giants head. More arrows from Orthan and another blow from Thud brings down the cloudy beast as an older female cloud giant emerges from the doorway with a fire poker clutched in one hand. Skilver is struck by the angry bitch and must heal himself. She and thud exchange blows while Orthan shoots arrows. Using the circlet of blasting, Skilver brings down the female cloud giant.
All three giants are beheaded; preserve spells are cast and the heads are stored in Orthan’s bag of holding. Stones begin to rain down fro the top level. Skilver casts fireball upward to the top of the tower while Max casts fireball down to the bottom level of the tower. Shouts and commotion are heard.
Upon ascending back to the top level the party finds two more cloud giants lying dead. The heads are taken and added to Orthan’s bag. Skilver suddenly has a strange sinking feeling. The entire group takes off from the top level to observe the tower from a distance. The tower is now traveling a northerly direction arching toward the ground. Stone blocks and items of various sorts can be seen falling from the bottom of the tower as it drifts and breaks apart. The tower disintegrates completely before hitting the ground.
The group returns to see the old mage of Orlbar in the high moor. He is pleased with the news of the cloud giant defeat. He rewards the members of the party with several magic items. The group then travels back to Waterdeep to collect on the cloud giant brains. Then on to Thudheim.

It never fails, just when you’re about to call the crystal ball repairman, it starts working again!

Very near death that time! These rock throwers have now near been the death of me twice. Best stick to the old plan of sending out the Thud bait and blasting from afar rather than fighting those with ranged attacks.

Still a fantastic amount of damage bringing down the entire tower. Almost a pity attacking those poor devils. They must have wondered what we wanted. If I had a conscience I suppose I might feel bad. More’s the pity for them!

The swamp mage of Oralbar is certainly off his rocker. I almost hope he does not eat the rainbow mushroom. Sent me into a hell of a tailspin and I am sure I have a much tighter hold on reality than the batty mage. I think we have not heard the last of him I am sure.

Exciting news from the former party member Raineer. Hellsgate destroyed and her magical treasure scatter to and fro. I think we best make our way there and seek our rightful fortune.
