Bungle in the jungle or bungholed in the junghole

Deciding that the last visit to the deepest darkest jungles wasn’t scary enough – what with magic resistant flesh-eating tiger men and what not – they decide for a repeat performance and return tot he deep jungle that they traversed when they encountered the swath of destruction referenced here: [https://dndblog.com/2011/02/#]. Venturing in the same general direction brings them into contact with a large city in the process of being swallowed by the jungles and an ever expanding swamp.
Having learned the value of good reconnaissance, the group hangs out in the deepest of the jungle thickets and scouts the city through various means, revealing the presence of four distinct groups of dwellers: brutish hominids living on the cliffs surrounding the city, tree-top dwelling hominids inside the city, frog-man living near the swamp and strange snake-men that roam hither and yon.
More scouting picks out a few areas of interest and the group gets ready with invisibility spells and prepares to descend into the main city.
Within minutes they have diverted from their stated goal and are assaulting snake-menin some sort of strange amphitheater. Dalliance’s fireball, Demming’s Icy Razors and Barada’s arrows combine to deadly effect. The group enters a long tunnel complex and does battle with subterranean lizards (pummeled to death by Demming’s grasping hands), subterranean ambushers (lightninged and fieballed the death by Dalliance) and drugged human slaves. Eventually they arrive at a locked door that bears a strong resemblance to the door they encountered when assaulting the lair of the Emerald Cobra. They are flummoxed by the door’s refusal to open, but decide that a key is needed. Having no key at hand, they retrace their steps to search the bodies of the snake-men they slew earlier. No plunder to be found means no plunder to be split, so the group proceeds on their original mission to investigate an interesting looking step pyramid that towers above the rest of the city.
The journey tot he pyramid is uneventful and the climb to the top allows for more looks at a strange city. Alas, the top of the pyramid has only a sundial and nothing else. However, the manor house is close at hand, in better repair and ultimately looks quite interesting. They creep tot he wall and Ron’j! uses his boots of springing to leap and catch the top of the wall. When he drops over the wall and into plush garden, he is set upon by a trio of Rust Monsters. Some deft juggling prevents the beasties from eating his rings, but the crossbow bolts in his quivers are snack food before the critters are sent scurrying.
Dalliance activates the cube of force and the group wanders the lush walkways protected from Rust Monsters and man-eating leopards that roam the area. While Ti’Karu stuns the creatures with a color spray, the group darts through a doorway and into a courtyard surrounding a pagoda. When he spots a group of bugbears and frogmen, Demming lets fly with an Ice Storm and slays them with flying blocks of ice. The group charges up the stairs and into the main door. The door responmds to being touched with loud cries for help. As Ron’j! passes through the opening, he is Feebleminded. While the rest of the group charges around the outside of the structure, Feaster ventures within in pursuit of ‘Magnum PI’ who flees his approach. However, when he rounds the corner, he falls victim to a charm spell. When the rest of the group encounters him again after passing through a hastily-vacated room, he asks them to please remove their shoes and be respectful of the occupant’s property. They leave the bemused Bud in their wake and continue the search, but eventually reach the conclusion that the mage in question must have vacated the premises. They discover an escape tunnel that emerges in a low building on the other side of the street, and think long and hard at the implications of having pissed off yet another high level wizard. Realizing that to hang about is to invite retaliation, Barada uses one of the wishes in his luck armor to restore Ron’j! to full mental capacity and the group departs the immediate area….

Pretty random spot for a wizard to be hanging out. Pretty safe to though I suppose. Dang wizards are so slippery.
