The City of Brass

The party approaches a narrow pass. Two dog headed demons attack Thud. Thud swings his sword wildly and hits, beheading one of them. Clifford is then bashed by an invisible force. Another demon appears and Greenleaf begins reading a protection from demons scroll. The protection begins and the party escapes.
Across the vast desert the group sees a massive sand storm form. The storm begins to move toward the group from the Prime Material Plane. The storm appears to be miles wide. Max reads Lemunds Secure Shelter from a magical scroll and a stone house appears as the spell disappears. The group takes refuge in the stone shelter as the storm passes. When the group emerges, sand is stacked to the roof of the shelter.
Hours after leaving the shelter, the group spots a fluorescent blue light far away to the south. Several party members want to investigate but the druids insist that the party moves on. Traveling parallel to the mountains along the desert floor the ground begins to shake. The shaking becomes more violent and the party seeks refuge in a cliff side cave. A large landslide occures but the group is safe within the cave.
Leaving the cave behind the group spots a large tented oasis with a population of residents. The druids recommend avoiding the oasis. Others want to investigate. As they approach the illusionary oasis disappears. Greenleaf, having the ability to see invisible beings, sees someone trying to pick Thud’s pocket. Thud swings wildly when informed of the robber and lands a lucky hit. Greenleaf finishes the invisible attacker off with his scimitar. The group finds a pair of magical sandals, a dagger, an earring and a ring.
In the distance, the group spots what looks like a brass domed tower. The group travels to the tower to investigate. A red skinned individual wearing a blue turbin is encountered. The figure points at the tower and mumbles something to Greenleaf. He has been geased. He must travel to the tower with the locket and exchange for fruit to bring back. Clifford casts haste and he and Greenleafe travel to the brass tower. When they arrive, a druid like fellow gives him fruit but asks Greeanleaf to return with a staff. Greenleaf feels trapped in a mobius task. Greenleaf returns fruit to the red skinned man and receives a staff. The red skinned humanoid then bursts into a column of fire. The group returns to the druid at the brass tower to present the staff. When they arrive the tower has turned to a small hut. The druid takes the staff, breaks it and disappears.
The group moves on seeing a large active volcanoe in the distance. What seems to be hours later, the group arrives at a tall red tower surrounded by approximately 30 red robed humanoids. Greenleaf is asked… “Have you brought the staff?” No replies Greenleaf. He is told that he must have a magic item to ring the great brass bell to appease the red dragon. Greenleaf seeks out the red dragon and brings it back to the red tower. Max donates his rod of absorbtion and the brass bell is struck with a loud “Gong”. The dragon is pleased by the ring of the bell and Greenleaf is not eaten. The rod of absorption must stay to ring the bell in the future.
Several hours later the party finally spots the massively sprawling City of Brass. A patrol of efreet are spotted. The group decides to dispel all invisibility and put on their efreet rings. All party members now appear as the fiery creatures. When the patrol arrives, the group announces that they are emissaries of the druid council from the Prime Material Plane. The party is escorted into the vast city. flying carpets with fire beings are seen everywhere. THe group must wait for an entire day in line before they are admitted to see the Sultan of the City. The sultan is surprised that the group actually made the entire journey. He warns the druids to only use the summon fire elemental if it is absolutely necessary.
With gifts delivered and apologies made the party departs the city and begins the journey back accross the plane of fire. Max uses the wand of frost to freeze the lava fields. Back past the tower of time, beyond the island at the oasis with the boy djin and on to the great river. Fruit is provided for the great dragon turtle and the party is ferried across. The cave is spotted and the group gathers into a circle. Greenleaf reads the scroll provided by the druid council and the party is magically returned to the Prime Material Plane. The group returns to Thudheim where the few items found are split among the current members.

This… “The dragon is pleased by the ring of the bell and Greenleaf is not eaten” …has got to be my favorite line of all time.

  • Clifford  says:

I think with a name like Greenleaf, the carnivorous dragon wouldn’t be all that interested. However, if Greenleaf had a different name, like Hamsteak or Cornfed, we might have had a serious fight on our hands.

Speaking of fights, what news of Greenleaf’s rematch with the bear druid?

  • Dalliance  says:

Greenleaf was successful in both not being eaten and also accomplishing the defeat of the Bear Druid that had defeated him one time in the past.

Although cash poor the quest did provide a great deal of experience. Shweet. Now to the purchase of a plot of land to call my own. Sweet home Thudheim, where a woamn is judged by her power rather than her sex.

  • Clifford  says:

Thudheim is truly a progressive place.

  • CMdaDM  says:

It is progressive because Thud just wants to be left to his own devices. Don’t make trouble for the Thudmeister and all is well…
