Drain the Swamp!

Investigations of the subterranean area – extremely damp and musty – reveals a lot of undead (swiftly vanquished), an imprisoned spirit naga (also dispatched and the head preserved) a roving demon that attacks by surprise and lightning bolts the party a few times for good measure (killed as well) a few umber hulks (also dispatched with extreme prejudice).

After a few days up the rope, the group decides to try and see if the black dragon they spotted earlier is still hanging about and in need of killing. They emerge and go to investigate the central ‘building’ when they are beset by a swarm of tormented creatures that squirm out from the ruins and attack in waves. The creatures soon die in waves.

Throwing caution to the wind, the group airlifts to the tower using the cleric’s rainbow elevator. They enter a room decidedly devoid of dragon. Some investigation reveals little of interest so the group journey eastward to the site of the slaughter. The bodies are in poor, poor condition after a week in the swamp, but some Wolfmaster gear is seized as means of proof of completion.

It is noticed that there is a large party of horsemen headed towards the party’s current location, so the decision to relocate is made. A couple of Plane Shifts later, the group is some 30 miles east of Arabel. The mage conjures mount spells and the group travels for a few days to return to the city.

They enter the city and make haste to deliver the news to their patrons. Upon their arrival, their patrons share some grim news. the War Wizards would like to speak with the party about their recent activities, for there has been an incident involving Opfelia, and the party’s headquarters. The incident in question is an attack upon the party’s headquarters with the result that Ofelia was lain and a message scrawled across the wall in here blood and viscera. “Return my books to me”. Of course, the War Wizards re exceedingly interested in which books and to whom they belong…
