Getting Head

The party preps by laying a slab of ice across a likely place where a trap awaits. They shuffle forward and are unsurprised when the statues try to push them into the ice-topped pit. Beyond the door – which opens easily to the golden key – lies a long hallway lined with more blocked doorways. Taking the path of least resistance leads the group to a large room with a dlab-topped well in the center, similar to that discovered in the first room they entered. A quartet of headless statues rings the place…hey wait!

“Didn’t we see some huge statue heads laying around in various rooms?” “Why, yes we did!” So they’re off! They retrace their steps through the ancient corridors and collect a couple of heads from places visited earlier. The mage produces a 24 foot ladder from within his robe and they use it to haul the heads into position. They decide to try and open some of the slab doors and after triggering a couple of forcecage spells, deide to see if they can make the mage able to resist the dark urse that punishes those that try to cast low-level spells.

Dripping in magical protections, the mage removes the offending forcecages and the party eventually muscles the doors open. They find and retrieve an ox head, then break into one of the remaining doors. There, a room of sarcophagi proves to be a puzzle. One opened, they reveal a pack of attacking mummy-dogs.The druid wreaths herself in flame and crisps them in record time. Set into the bottom of each of the now-vacant sarcophagi is a dial that can be rotated in either direction. Turn them one way and revela a room. Turn them the other way and reveal a secret room. Therein lies the remaining head. There is also a sarcophagus full of blackness. Wondering if this is a secret shaft, the party maneuvers the ladder into position and slides it into the blackness. After feeding in about 20 feet of ladder and not finding any trace of the bottom, they try to remove said ladder. The ladder is now only about 4 feet long, the rest having been eaten, vaporized, disintegrated, vamoosed. Ugh.
Allrightythen. They return to the room of missing heads and lift the final ones into place. As Goldpiece (wearing the Malchor’s spider slippers) slides the last one into position, all four statues animate and begin attacking the group!
