Following the unlocking of the podium and the retrieval of the Ring of Wizardry – with the accompanying loss of many points of intelligence on the part of Goldpiece – the group cavalierly vaults into teleport after teleport. They discover that the shifts are not random and may in fact be mapped!
Getting the lay of the land, the group starts investigating hitherto unexplored areas and run into a kennel of hounds. Not just any ole hounds, but hounds from the pits of hell! Hounds that breathe fire and brimstone, that deliver savage bites and bay at ear-splitting volume. Luckily, the group is possessed of a paladin – a paladin that is immune to fiery breath – thanks to a nifty cold sword – and protected from the savage bites of the creatures. So, while the rest of the party hangs back and looks for an opportunity to pitch in – the paladin battles in the midst of the swarming pack. Gouts of blood fill the air and the reaving is terrible.
As Gal advances into the room, a monstrously huge matriarch enters from the opposite side. As she and the paladin do battle, party members scamper into arrow range and let fly a few volleys. Soon enough, the slaughter is complete and the party has won the day. A quick bit of looting and it is back to scooting around the corridors in search of something.
Is it the Rotting Man? Is it Orcus? What the heck were those distended brain things and intellect devourers – what have we stumbled into and which way is out? Oh well…pressing on…
Finally the adventurers come across a steep and narrow staircase and the elf advances cautiously. As he peeps his head over the lip of the staircase to gaze into the area beyond he is struck dead and his body collapses down the stairs, nearly precipitating an avalanche of party members. The group regroups and moves away. As they do so they are aware of tendrils of thought worming their way into their heads. This is not a good thing.So, they retreat in earnest, and eventually deploy the rope. The elf is returned to the living and he describes a confusing scene of tentacled brains floating about in a large cavernous area.Then, it all went dark for him.
The group investigates other areas a bit more and stumbles onto a teleporter that sends them back near the iron gates by which they entered this area. Well, the way out has been discovered, so that is one question answered from the list.
