For their next excursion, the group decides to work on behalf of some archaeologists that wish to explore a desert pyramid. They want the group to scout the place and remove any threats to the scholars. A deal is struck regarding the disposition of treasures and with that, the group is off!
They teleport to the closest spot they know well, then set off across the sands using a combination of flying and mounted travel to traverse the shifting amber sands.

After a couple of days, they see a flame flickering on the horizon. The journey to the place is mostly uneventful – aside from a couple of wights burrowing out from under the sand to attack them. The wights are blasted out of existence by the Justicar and the group sets up shop about a quarter-mile from the place.

A long rectangular base with two entrances is topped by a series of steps and the uppermost platform shows a flame gouting from the top of the structure. The arcane eye is deployed and as it approaches, the wizard notes that one of the double doors is burst open, the walls lined with soot and scorch marks. The eye ventures within and does a bit of scouting. The two most interesting finds are a pair of fire elementals stalking about in one of the larger rooms, and a set of stairs that lead down into the structure. It is at this point that some in the party wonder if this is the correct pyramid. There is talk of going back to verify that they are in the correct place. The rest of the group says – ‘who cares? We’re here now!’. With that the manner is settled.

Down is explored, but it only leads to four closed doors, so now it is time for the party to enter and begin the investigation. They skirt the magical square near the entrance and avoid contact with fire elementals.

They do encounter a trap lined hallway that they defeat by laying their foldable boat across the pit traps, then locate a hidden carving that gives them access to a hidden treasure room. At the end of the trapped hallway, they pass through a doorway into what resembles an ancient scroll repository. Also present are a sextet of dangerous dog-creatures that the party swiftly vanquishes. Now they are alone in a room of scrolls. A secret door is located and the party takes a moment to decide whether to catalog the library’s contents or press on through the secret door…
