Up the rope, down the rope. Through the wall, into the hall.

The next days pass in much the same way as the previous ones. A bit of idle speculation about the motives of the lunatics who built the monastery, a bit of exploration, some pitched combat, the odd trap and doors. So. Many. Doors.
Eventually, the doors end in the foyer of the second tower – on the opposite side of the monastery from where the party defeated the lich, lo about two tendays ago. Although stairs lead upwards, they also lead downwards and it is on the downward path that the party treads onward.
The bottom of the stairs give rise to five paths, some more menacing than the others. The least menacing path ends up pelting the party with multiple magic missiles before they retreat. The next ‘safe’ path traps them inside walls of force, which they eventually batter down, suffering a few minor shocks along the way.
Upon exiting the paths, the party confronts a ‘roid-raging uber goblin who can soak up damage like nobody’s business, but doesn’t seem capable of dealing much harm. they venture onward, meeting and defeating a party of gnolls and a bunch of very well-armed lizard folk. All are slain, though it seems that the creatures have an uncanny ability to soak up huge amounts of damage before expiring. A secret door in the corridor is found, but there are an intriguing set of stairs that lead upwards, so the party is undecided about which path to follow.
